Comfort in bad times
Written by Anita Carman
Dear Faithful One,
Do you ever wonder why life is so hard? Do you long for relief? Let us find comfort from God’s Word.
Ever since sin entered the world, the utopian life was over. Instead, we live in a world that is imperfect surrounded by people who are imperfect. The way to get through the bad times is to accept the reality that life is imperfect. At the same time, let us also draw upon the teaching in 2 Corinthians 1:5 which reads, “For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.” NIV.
Did you see the words that tell us that it is through Christ that our comfort overflows? God did not insulate Jesus from the world and He will not insulate us either. God is perfectly confident that we have Christ in us to handle not only the sufferings but to receive the comfort of Christ in the midst of our sufferings.
So when things are bad, remember that Christ suffered too. Then draw on the comfort of a Christ who has overcome. In the midst of the greatest victory, God reminds us the source of our overflow is not an event, a successful project, or a victory here on earth. Our source of overflowing comfort is in the Christ who comforts us. So next time you celebrate a victory, remember the greatest victory we have is in Jesus! This way, you won’t put your hope in an event but in a person. Jesus is the victory that keeps us celebrating!
I pray this devotion encouraged you in a special way. When I pray for you, I hear a victory song. I believe in you because I believe in the power of God’s Word in you as you put His Word into action.
